The swing is designed to resemble the swinging seat found in the Americas and central Africa.The top cover will keep the mid day sun away.

Scottish Larch and Douglas Fir
The swing frame is cut into the top bar and fixed using galvanised 10mm bolts. The top cover is fixed to the bar using two galvanised 12mm coach screws each end.
The legs are laminated from two 75mm x 50mm battens glued together with formaldehyde resin. Each leg has a cross rail, which also serves as a shelf for drinks.
The top cover has curved ex 100mm x 50mm joists with 100mm x 20mm rails fixed with 75mm stainless steel screws.
The seat is made from Douglas Fir, and the frame is mortice tenoned together. the seat back and arms have through wedged mortice and tenons.
The set is hung from the top bar using 6mm x 40mm galvanised steel chains.
This set has not been treated, but will require regular oiling to prevent the wood drying out too much. This can be applied in the wintertime.
