This piece is designed to suit the timber purchased fro H & A Lewis, Boyndlie, by Fraserburgh. It was cut from standing stock at Forglen Estate, Turriff, Aberdeenshire. I particularly like elm because it is quite open grain but hardwearing and resistant to decay when left outside.
Length: 1200mm (4 feet)
Width: 900mm (3 feet)
Height: 760mm (2 feet 6 inches)
The top frame is stub mortice and tenoned with infill pieces notched at 3/4 inches apart.
The legs are of 3 inch by 4 1/2 inch section and stub morticed into top and bottom feet/cross rails.
It is not necessary to apply any finishes to elm, but an oil coat of linseed or teak oil will help keep the colour of the wood.
