This piece is an example copied from a book about intricate boxes. I have used elm for the main surround and ash for the lid, bottom and ears. The box has mitred corners with a dado-ed bottom.
This box can be used to hold various small items.

Scottish grown Elm and Ash
The box has mitred corners. The bottom board is dado-ed into the sides.
To fix the ears, the box corners were cut out using the bandsaw and the ear were glued on using masking tape to hold them while the glue set. Then the ears were sanded smooth.
The top was then fitted by holding it in place with masking tape while it was progressively sanded.
The box received 4 coats of clear beeswax.
